Authentic Thai Tom Yum Soup Recipe with Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 stalks lemongrass
  • 5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 1 slice galangal
  • 300 grams shrimp
  • 100 grams mushrooms
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Sliced red chili for garnish
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Start by boiling 4 cups of water in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 stalks of chopped lemongrass, 5 kaffir lime leaves, and a slice of galangal to the pot.
  3. Let the broth simmer for about 10 minutes to release flavors.
  4. After simmering, add 300 grams of shrimp and a handful of mushrooms to the broth.
  5. Season the soup with 3 tablespoons of fish sauce, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, and 1 tablespoon of chili paste.
  6. Let it cook for another 5 minutes until the shrimp turn pink.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced red chili.
  8. Serve hot with lime wedges and enjoy!
